What is it about?
Contactless service technology and contactless medical technology have been developed in response to infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, appearing in users who have been in the same space. In addition, user tracking technology that can track individuals who have been in the same space has begun to be required from government. Therefore, we propose an application and server system that can store and track the number of passengers using the same bus in the same time zone using beacon signals and smart devices. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, an experiment in which individuals got on and off various buses 10 times, and an experiment in which 10 participants got on and off the same bus 10 times, were conducted together. The experiment showed 100% boarding and getting off recognition results, and it was confirmed that the boarding time error range was under 10 seconds among 10 participants.

Why is it important?
The proposed technology will be useful in checking the time of contact with a person in a public bus space that is used by many people, and to track passengers who have been in the space at the same time.
Perspectives
A number-of-passengers counting system using beacon technology and smart devices is a useful technology that not only tracks individual users' bus use and travel routes, but also easily identifies all passengers on the same bus at a specific time. In addition, it will be an excellent technology for tracking passengers in situations where there exist diseases that are easily spread. In our future research, we will study the passenger confirmation system in subways as well as public buses using high-frequency signals with beacon technology. Subways, unlike buses, have several passenger compartments, so in the case of beacon signals generated from adjacent compartments, a problem of misrecognition may occur. If high-frequency signals are used together as a method to compensate for this problem it is expected that the problem of misrecognition can be solved. We will also conduct research on using the proposed system in spaces other than buses, where people stay or move at the same time.
