What is it about?
Creating a successful and engaging post on Instagram is far from trivial. We built interpretable models to predict posts' popularity, and derived guidelines to create highly engaging posts in terms of likes and comments. Through a new unsupervised approach, we can identify hot topics likely to gain high engagement.

Why is it important?
Our work overcomes many drawbacks of previous works. We are the first to focus on comments, not only likes, which are of utmost importance on Instagram nowadays. Our models are interpretable, while state-of-the-art black-box models are not. As a result, we can derive guidelines to proactively assist content creators instead of merely predicting their success or failure.
Perspectives
Companies and Influencers spend enormous amount of money and time to create highly engaging content. Through this article, I think we are greatly assisting them in their mission, to eventually deliver compelling content to their audience. Understanding and explaining what people like to see on Instagram was both exciting and fascinating. I hope you will feel the same when reading this article.
