What is it about?
Media streaming services generate the highest percentage of overall network traffic, and their usage is constantly growing. Thus, advanced network solutions are essential to reduce network traffic due to media delivery and guarantee a certain level of Quality of Experience (QoE). In this scenario, network virtualization is considered a necessary enabler to increase the network and media streaming performance. This work describes state of the art on virtualization technologies applied to media streaming and investigates future challenges and research directions.
