What is it about?
The automotive industry is one of the areas most affected by digital transformation. For example, the importance of owning a vehicle has diminished over time but the need for innovative service models has increased significantly. In this context, digital services offer enormous potential. However, the implementation of such service models in practice has not yet emerged. Thus, this article provides an overview of the perception of digital services in the automotive industry.

Why is it important?
Our results show a low level of implementation of digital services in the automotive industry, limited mainly to media-related services, such as music and application connectivity. Furthermore, our findings show that the widespread use of digital services in the automotive industry is mainly hampered by unclear value propositions, a lacking digital mindset, high implementation costs, and concerns regarding data protection. However, professionals agree that digital services offer great future potential. For example, in terms of after-sales, product enrichment, electric mobility, customer engagement, and e-commerce service models.
