What is it about?
Agile transformations, which aim to introduce agile methodologies into organizations, often encounter numerous challenges. While cultural clashes and organizational resistance to change are recognized as significant barriers to adopting agile practices, the specific cultural challenges associated with embracing an agile mindset have received less attention in research. In this study, our objective was to identify and address the challenges that arise from the interaction between agile culture and organizational culture, offering valuable insights for further research and assisting practitioners facing these issues. The results of our research revealed seven key challenges inherent in an agile culture. These challenges encompass both technical agility (the practical implementation of agile practices) and cultural agility (the adoption of an agile mindset). We presented these findings through a conceptual model, illustrating the interplay between these challenges and their impact on agile transformations.

Why is it important?
Based on our insights, we have identified several avenues for future research, suggesting the need for more detailed investigations into the cultural challenges that emerge during the transition to agile methods, particularly within the context of software development and beyond. By shedding light on these cultural obstacles, we aim to contribute to the effective adoption and successful implementation of agile practices in organizations.
Perspectives
Our research offers valuable insights into the often-overlooked cultural challenges that arise during agile transformations. While existing studies acknowledge the resistance to change and clashes between cultures, our work delves deeper into the specific challenges associated with adopting an agile mindset. By conducting a mixed-method research approach, we gathered qualitative data from agile practitioners and followed up with a quantitative questionnaire study. Through this process, we identified and prioritized seven key challenges related to both technical and cultural agility. By reading our research, practitioners, and researchers can gain a comprehensive understanding of these challenges and their impact on agile transformations. This knowledge will empower them to navigate the complexities of cultural change during agile transformations in software development and other domains.
