What is it about?
Unlike pure-compressiom masory vaults, numerical form-finding of tension-compression mixed shells is known to be notoriously difficult to solve, because the problem becomes a hyperbolic boundary value problem. We indicate that there are actually many possible solutions, which can be explored by the variable projection method.

Why is it important?
Not only providing a numerical method to solve the problem that is known to be notoriously difficult to solve, we indicate that there are many solutions which can be explored by an interactive interface. Moreover, the obtained forms are aesthetically more interesting and dynamic than pure-compression domes. The unexplored frontier we have this covered is full of diamonds.
Perspectives
It has been historically proven that arches and compression domes are very strong and efficient. Our study adds tension-compression mixed shells on top of it.
