We explore using ChatGPT and GPT-3 to help researchers more quickly conduct qualitative research. This research often includes significant human involvement. We explore the possibility of replacing humans at different steps in the qualitative research process.

Why is it important?

Large language models, like GPT-3, have become extremely powerful in the last few years. They are being used in many different tasks, like helping fiction writers brainstorm ideas for their writing. Qualitative research is often very time-consuming. Including ChatGPT or GPT-3 in that process can potentially help researchers significantly speed up the process.
