What is it about?

Our work is a computational strategy based on data science techniques that is easy to use and provides curated data series through reproducible pipelines. We utilize open data and data provenance on financial reports from publicly Brazilian companies provided by the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission to improve the tools developed during the Brazilian Investment Olympics (OBInvest).

Why is it important?

Financial literacy initiatives aimed at young people in formal or informal learning spaces are advocated and implemented in several developed countries. Financial literacy has been encouraged since 2005 by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). However, it is not yet common in developing countries. Therefore, teaching financial literacy can present several challenges, including the complexity of financial concepts, lack of standardization, and limited resources. As a solution, we offer a new set of data-centric educational tools that are enhanced through the use of datasets enriched with data provenance and aligned with FAIR data principles.

Perspectives

We hope that our investigation will encourage other researchers to conduct more reproducible experiments. Specifically, we decided to discuss the roles of reproducible experiments, considering data provenance and FAIR data principles, in the domain of academic competitions, such as OBInvest. Our work clarifies the connection between the discussion of reproducible experiments and the challenges of financial literacy in developing countries.

The OBinvest is a scientific article that discusses the potential benefits of using the financial reports from publicly Brazilian companies provided by the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission to improve the tools developed during the Brazilian Investment Olympics (OBInvest).

I hope this article makes what people might think about the importance of Financial literacy. Because it was built over an easy and reproducible environment, it might works as a template, helping other researchers with application of FAIR principals and during creation of datasets enriched with data provenance techniques.

This scientific work aims to demonstrate the importance of developing financial education in schools, for this purpose it implements a workflow considering the data provenance, as well as the FAIR principles. We hope to increase the discussion on reproducible studies, mainly aimed at improving the financial bibliography.
