What is it about?
We used HPTLC and HPLC to determine the content of apiin, which is the main active ingredient in Apium graveolens L. root. The results of three greenness assessment methods show that HPTLC is an excellent green analysis method.

Why is it important?
Both HPTLC and HPLC can accurately determine the content of apiin. Comparing the greenness of the two analysis methods, the amount of HPTLC solvent used, the time consumption, and the amount of waste liquid generated are all lower than those of HPLC. HPTLC was shown to be a green environmental analysis method that can quickly and accurately determine the apiin.
Perspectives
I hope that this article will draw attention to environmentally friendly analytical methods. The choice of analytical methods should be not only based on accuracy and precision, but also consider the impact on the environment and the health of operators. Therefore, green analytical chemistry contributes to the search for safe, energy-optimized, waste-minimizing methods, which will provide a reference for the choice of analytical methods in the future.
