What is it about?

Adaptive Rigidification is a method to speed up simulations by monitoring non-deformation to reduce the difficulty of the time integration. Most scenes are not entirely deforming at all times, making this approach highly efficient to generate accurate deformation motions.

Why is it important?

We present a method for reducing the computational cost of elastic solid simulation by treating connected sets of non-deforming elements as rigid bodies. With rigidification, the system size to solve at each time step can be greatly reduced, and if all elastic element become rigid, it reduces to solving the rigid body system.

Perspectives

Fast physically based simulations are critical for real-time applications. For instance a surgery simulator requires local deformation in the region if the operation, while the rest of the body remains mostly static or moving rigidly.
