What is it about?
This survey article is focusing on the state-of-the-art theoretical modelings, analytical models, and evaluation tools of blockchains. We are particularly interested in the following 3 aspects: (1) Theories to Improving the Performance of Blockchains, (2) Modelings and Techniques for Better Understanding Blockchains, and (3) Useful Measurements, Datasets, and Experiment Tools for Blockchains.

Why is it important?
Via the overview of the existing 67 state-of-the-art blockchain-related surveys, we have found that a survey of the state-of-the-art theories, modelings, and useful tools, that can i) improve the performance of blockchains, and ii) help better understand blockchains, is still missing. In particular, the following directions need in-depth investigations: Theories to Improving the Performance of Blockchains, Modelings and Techniques for Better Understanding Blockchains, and Useful Measurements, Datasets and Experiment Tools for Blockchains.
Perspectives
By this article, we would like to fill the gap by emphasizing cutting-edge theoretical studies, modelings, and useful tools for blockchains. Particularly, we try to include the latest high-quality research outputs that have not been included by other existing survey articles. We believe that this survey can shed new light on the further development of blockchains.
