What is it about?

This research proposes the development of an Internet of Things (IoT) based Solid Waste Monitoring prototype that detects the level of the garbage in the bin in real-time and notifies relevant authorities with the bin location when the garbage is full.

Why is it important?

Environmental threats such as illegal dumping of waste, littering, poor sanitation and poverty have proven to be great contributors to the degradation of the environment and poor waste management. This research therefore, presents a study that aims to analyze limitations in the traditional manual ways of managing the waste. It further aims to provide an Internet of Things (IoT) based solution that will provide a real-time indicator of the garbage levels in a bin at given time intervals through the use of sensors that will transmit relevant information to relevant authorities in order to help with waste collection.

Perspectives

this research propose a real-time solution of informing the company that collect garbage of bin to come remove waste on time before it contribute negative environmental impacts such as pollution and diseases.
