What is it about?
In order to compare JATS XML academic articles, we performed an evaluation of twelve existing XML diff algorithms and came up with the need for new edit actions and change semantics extraction.

Why is it important?
None of the current XML diff algorithms is able to produce human readable differences between two JATS XML versions of academic articles. In order to make this possible, we need to add new edit actions and also extract change semantics.
Perspectives
We are working on the improvements of the top scoring XML diff algorithm (JNDiff) and will soon publish another work about the improved version of the JNDiff algorithm, combining new edit actions and the change semantics extraction.
