What is it about?
This paper describes a practical scheme for quickly migrating file servers. This scheme allows administrators to immediately switch file servers from the old one to the new one without interrupting file services for users.

Why is it important?
We achieved quick file server migration with the post-copy approach. To achieve this, we used three techniques; (1) on-demand migration that copies a file from the old server to the new server when the file is first accessed, (2) background migration that copies files that are not accessed to accelerate the server migration, and (3) stub-based file management that allows intermediate state of files. The extensive evaluation based on production systems and real workload demonstrates the practicality of our scheme.
