What is it about?

Mobile devices, cellular antennas and the Cloud have the potential to form a computing continuum for new and disruptive mobile applications. Applications can execute transparently upon any infrastructure, minimizing battery consumption in devices and increasing the computation power.

Why is it important?

Nowadays, mobile devices, cloud computing and intermediate servers are seen as substantially different infrastructures to run applications. We propose to bridge this gap in a transparent way for the end user, bringing the "Computing Continuum" to life.

Perspectives

I personally foresee a future in which computing is ubiquitous: it is happening all the time and at all places, without us even knowing: connected cars, smart houses, etc. are a nearby future brought by the endless possibilities of ubiquitous or "liquid" computing. This research is an important step forwards on that direction.
