What is it about?

People of different social or ethnic background tend to view space differently. Cultural values and early socialisation (schooling) has an impact on how people regard boundaries, preferences for buidling house, villages and towns.

Why is it important?

Modern buildings do not necessarily take note of how peple of different ethnic background regard spatial arrangements, alignment according to direction, location within a town wtc. People with diffrent ethnic backgroun and different cultural values will like or dislike certain types of buildings or locations. This will effect the housing market, property prices and sustainability of housing estates.

Perspectives

Working for the Urban Development Authority of Malaysia and living at different times in high rise condos and in rural kampongs has stated me thinking about the perception of space and its impact on property markets.
