What is it about?
The residual stresses and strains are mathematically related by elastic constant of material coefficients. When using X-ray diffraction methods, the coefficients depend on the crystallographic texture. They are considered and calculated here for TiN.

Why is it important?
The applied or measured elastic constants determine the accuracy of the measurement. Therefore, attention should be paid to their use.
Perspectives
Any mechanical or thermal treatment causes macro residual stresses. From a mechanical point of view, some residual stresses should be beneficial. Here, non-destructive X-ray diffraction methods are used for measurement. This metodology should be develop in more advance and applied in practical enginiering.
