The chapter summarizes how small firms can through the innovation activities foster their learning and chances for business success. The chapter starts by discussing how to measure innovation performance in small firms. This will be followed by the identification of the main elements and indicators for measuring innovation. Based on the above, the elements of an optimal innovation engine are illustrated for small businesses. Hence, the aim is to offer both theoretical and empirical insights for answering the questions of how to improve innovation performance in small firms, what performance dimensions should be measured or assessed in these firms and what are the appropriate indicators for doing it.
