What is it about?

The vast majority of all firms are small in size. However, there is nothing small in their influence on the regional and national economies. These firms create substantial value to the economy in terms of employment, job creation and value added. For that reason, the abilities of these firms to innovate are extremely important not only for strengthening their competitiveness but also because they through the linkages and knowledge spillovers with other firms influence the entire economy. This book focuses on the small business sector. It contributes to current discussion by exploring how how small firms innovate, compete and grow.

Despite the significant importance of small firms to the economies, much remains to be learned about the processes and dynamics of how small firms innovate, compete and grow. This book aims at contributing to this gap by exploring how competitiveness and growth have been achieved through innovations in smaller firms.
