What is it about?

This study describes 5 major Orthopaedic injuries which occurred on the same water slide in a six week span, including three major pelvic injuries, a femur (thigh bone) fracture and a shoulder dislocation.

Why is it important?

This is the first study in Jamaica to describe water slide injuries. This the first study to describe injuries from a particular mechanism of injury.

Perspectives

Patrons must be aware that if they are obese, they are at higher risk of getting major injuries. They must also be aware of if the facility has emergency personnel, emergency equipment and vehicles in the advent of an injury from a high velocity ride.
