What is it about?
Patients with severe COPD have been shown to benefit from chronic nocturnal mask ventilation. Currently, it is thought that the initial adjustment to mask ventilation needs a hospitalisation, which is expensive and a burden to the patient. The present study showed that NIV initiation at home is non-inferior to standard in-hospital initiation, is safe, and and reduces costs by over 50%.
