What is it about?

Bowel obstruction is a common presenting complaint. Mechanical large bowel obstruction is often caused by an obstructing colorectal tumour blocking the lumen of the bowel. Here we present a case of bowel obstruction. Histology subsequently reveals mucinous adenocarcinoma with osseous metaplasia. Osseous metaplasia is the formation of bone from a different tissue type. This is a rare phenomenon and has been observed in numerous tumour types.
