What is it about?

Screening for the arrhytmia atrial fibrillation with a portable and affordable stick device (MyDiagnostick® (MDS)) during a large-scale cardiovascular screening program in the Brazilian primary care is feasible. In patients from underserved areas in waiting lines for echocardiography, a high prevalence of this arrhytmia was observed, increasing with age and higher cardiovascular risk. Compared to the gold-standard 12-lead ECG interpreted by experts, the device had good accuracy for detection of atrial fibrillation, and the presence of atrial fibrillation detected by the device was strongly associated with major cardiovascular abnormalities in standard echocardiography.
