What is it about?

The aim of this study was to adapt the English, French, German and Russian versions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) injury and illness surveillance form to be sport specific for use in Biathlon to create forms that can be used to collect data and measure the rate of injury and illness in athletes.
 23 medical representatives from 16 of the 55 Biathlon Federations participated in this study to adapt the form and create disease coding relevant to biathlon. The forms were developed into an electronic fillable PDF. The changes were then translated into Russian, French and German. 
Conclusion: This study provides a validated Biathlon specific injury and illness surveillance form in English, French, German and Russian. This forms the basis for the surveillance and implementation of preventative measures that will ultimately contribute to enhanced athlete wellbeing and success Biathlon, and winter sports more generally.
