What is it about?

Women with bladder and kidney cancer have worse survival than men, which may be due to suboptimal evaluation of their symptoms.

We performed a systematic review of existing evidence to explore the factors that affect the quality of the diagnostic process for these cancer patients.

We found that women, and patients with non-cancerous diagnoses were more likely to experience lower quality diagnostic processes.

Risk prediction tools and improving evidence for guideline recommendations may help to reduce the gender difference and improve survival for these cancers.
