What is it about?

We have developed a self-assessment questionnaire to assess the personal and professional development that happens as a result of volunteering in low and middle-income countries. It is important to understand how health professionals develop through volunteering so people can understand what they will gain or lose by volunteering. We developed the questionnaire from outcomes reported in academic literature that were agreed to be important outcomes by a group of experts. This paper describes how we created the questionnaire and how we established that it was assessing what we thought it was assessing, by getting a wide variety of health professionals to answer many questions and reducing the number of questions using statistics.
