What is it about?

Marriage maybe perceived as a beginning of a new and exciting life ahead with a loving partner. While this maybe true for some people, not everyone enjoys such a bright future, especially when a girl below 18 years old gets married, so called child marriage. This research explored the reasons for child marriage in Malaysia. By interviewing women who have the experience of getting married below the age of 18, we revealed the three reasons: immaturity in decision-making, family poverty, and religious and cultural norms. We hope that the results of this study will be useful to reduce child marriage.
