What is it about?

This study objectively analyzed lens thickness and lens density in mild to moderate cataracts and found that lens thickness is independent of lens density in the early stages of cataract after accounting for age, axial length, and anterior chamber depth.

Given the wide range of lens thickness in different types and densities of cataract determined by our current study, this metric is highly variable in the early stages of cataract formation, and therefore could not always be assumed to be directly related to the age-related thickening of the crystalline lens.

Our results are important because lens thickness is an important factor in newly developed IOL power calculation methods.
