What is it about?
Tuberculosis is one of the most common and deadly infectious diseases in the world. The highest rates are seen in developing countries, such as South Africa, where it commonly occurs as an opportunistic infection of HIV. Despite its systemic potential, infection of the oesophagus is incredibly rare and even moreso as a co-infection with candid. This case documents the clinical course of a young female, recently diagnosed with HIV who presented with dysphagia. It highlights her presentation, investigations, management and outcome after being diagnosed on oesophagi-gastroscopy with Tuberculosis.
