What is it about?
A 72-year-old man presented to the emergency department with difficulty swallowing. He had been regurgitating his food for many years. Investigations revealed that he had a rare silicone prosthesis placed around his lower esophagus over 30 years ago, known as an Angelchik Device. The man’s esophagus was completely destroyed by the time it was surgically removed, requiring him to be fed through a feeding tube connected to his small intestines. This case offers guidance in management of patients with Angelchik prostheses who develop similar complications.
