What is it about?
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a devastating disease that affects premature babies and has long-term consequences. This review highlights that up to 40% of babies with NEC develop some degree of neurodevelopmental impairment, most commonly cerebral palsy, blindness, and/or hearing impairment. Babies who require surgery for NEC have worse neurological outcomes.
