What is it about?

The Syrian Civil War is humanitarian emergency resulting in thousands of traumatic deaths. This paper reviews all published studies to present casualty data from the Syrian Civil War for those who are seen at healthcare facilities. It investigates the cause of their injuries, the body part injured and also what population is affected.

Why is it important?

Understanding these factors enables comparison of the effects of this war against previous conflicts. It therefore allows adaption to meet the medical challenge of this enduring war. This review found gunshot wound was the most common cause of injury. Head injuries were the most frequently recorded injured body part. Almost one in six casualties were children. These findings make the burden of trauma for the Syrian Civil War unique.
