What is it about?

This study investigated the association between voting for (far) right-wing populist parties and self-rated health in the European Union. The paper’s key finding is that voters who vote for (far) right-wing populist parties are more likely to report fair/poor health than individuals voting for traditional conservative parties. The exact mechanism behind this, and in how far health plays a role, however, need to be further examined. Low levels of social capital and issues of social integration may play a role.
