What is it about?

Vulvar cancer is a rare gynecologic cancer for which surgery is the usual treatment when the cancer has not spread. One place we check for cancer spread during surgery is the lymph nodes in the groin. Rather than take out all the lymph nodes in the groin, which can have numerous complications and side effects, often times surgeons take out the first, or ";sentinel"; lymph node. In this study, we report our experience with this procedure and demonstrate that it is safe and effective. We also show that cutting edge imaging techniques have helped to identify the sentinel lymph node in our patients.
