What is it about?
To date no effective Emergency Department management of post dialysis bleeding from a hemodialysis access conduit has been described. We report the use of a Vascular Closure Button (VCB) in 17 Emergency Department cases of persistent bleeding from a dialysis access site. The VCB allowed the treating Emergency Physicians to repair the bleeding site with a tightly placed suture while preserving the site’s function with no subsequent thromboses documented. The use of the VCB provides an easy access point for subsequent removal of the suture without disruption of the repair secondary to excessive manipulation of the repair site.
