What is it about?

Diagnoses of small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder (SCCB) are rare instances. On most of those instances however, they are misdiagnosed as transitional cell carcinoma. This can have disastrous implications, as SCCB are aggressive tumours that have a high metastatic potential. Histopathological examination with immunohistochemistry aids the diagnosis. Primary treatment is neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery, and the role of radiotherapy is in organ preservation or in a palliative setting.
