What is it about?

This study evaluates the influence of two major tropical factors, land-use and rain on the sedimentary microbial communities of urban waterways.

Why is it important?

This study provides a microbial metagenomic data set from urban waterway sediments that can serve as a reference for microbial ecology studies pertaining to urban environments. Land-use and rain being the two typical factors of tropical urban cities, studying them provides deep insights into the microbial communities behavior in urban waterways environment.

Perspectives

Land-use is a chronic pressure, which has a stronger influence on the assembly and functioning of microbial communities in urban waterways. In contrast, rain, which is an acute but regular disturbance, has a larger influence on the microbial communities during longer rain spells when compared to the short ones.
