What is it about?

In this article, the ability of a nucleic acid aptamer to discriminate between infectious and non-infectious norovirus particles is investigated. Binding of aptamers, like the norovirus putative carbohydrate receptors, appears to be dependent on maintenance of higher order capsid protein structure. Unlike the carbohydrate receptors, the aptamer investigated is one of the broadest reactive norovirus ligands reported to date, and is cheap, easily synthesized/modified, and stable.
