What is it about?

This paper describes the biochemical role of a protein Nse2. The protein is required for the attachment of a small protein modifier (SUMO) to Smc5, a protein required for DNA repair and replication.

Why is it important?

This was the first identification of a SUMO ligase associated wit the Smc5/ complex.

Perspectives

This was the first identification of a SUMO ligase associated wit the Smc5/ complex. It follows on from a paper published back to back with it, from our labs on the composition of the Smc5/6 complex.
