Why is it important?

Ergosterol is an important component in the fungal cell membrane. Various anti-fungals target the ergosterol biosynthesis and hence it is important to study the physiological characteristics of ergosterol biosynthesis in yeast. This study highlights the important enzymes in the ergosterol pathway that may be used as future drug targets.
