What is it about?
Using next-generation sequencing we identified 3 new regulators of fungal secondary metabolism in Aspergillus nidulans. The original genetic screen was completed more than 20 years ago and identified LaeA, a global regulator of fungal secondary metabolism. The 3 new regulators are LaeB, sntB, and hamI.

Why is it important?
We show that whole genome sequencing and SNP detection is a fast and relatively inexpensive way to characterize mutants from a forward genetics screen.
