Lack of AcrB Efflux Function Confers Loss of Virulence onSalmonella entericaSerovar Typhimurium

What is it about?

The AcrB efflux pump in Gram-negative bacteria such as Salmonella spp. gives resistance to many antibiotics. In this study, we show that loss of efflux function causes increased drug susceptibility and loss of ability to infect th host. We also showed that loss of efflux function mutants must be used when assessing the role of MDR efflux pumps and not gene deletion or inactivation mutants.
