What is it about?

Protein domains of unknown function are suprisingly often important and actually in many cases essential, even if they are not highly conserved.

Why is it important?

We show that bacteria harbor a universe of uncharacterized protein domains that most likely include many interesting and usefule functions.

Perspectives

Serious experimental investigations are required to figure out the functions of these numerous domains.
