What is it about?

Most of what we've known about replication fidelity in RNA viruses come from studies of the viral RNA dependent RNA polymerase. Here, we describe a variant of the nsp2 protease/helicase that also determines replication fidelity, and we show that it better resists the effects of unbalanced intracellular nucleotide concentrations. Our data contribute to a growing body of work indicating that other proteins involved in replication can also determine fidelity and RNA virus mutation rates.
