What is it about?
Using multiple methods and longitudinal follow-up, we performed drug resistance analyses in a patient cohort in Cameroon where a high diversity of HIV subtypes exist. Drug resistance analysis included Sanger sequencing, as the current gold standard, as well as Next-Generation Sequencing and the rapid testing method amplification-refractory mutation system (ARMS)-PCR.

Why is it important?
The globally increased HIV treatment efforts lead to increased numbers of HIV drug resistance in treated patients that can be transmitted to newly infected, untreated individuals . Drug resistance analysis is important to guarantee effective treatment and to identify causes of treatment failure
Perspectives
HIV drug resistance analysis is paramount to assure effective treatment, especially in the current times of globally increased HIV treatment efforts.
