What is it about?

Human coronavirus 229E is considered a respiratory pathogen, and is thought by most to only infect cells that occur in the respiratory system. Recent studies indicate that human coronaviruses in general can affect multiple organ systems. This means the viruses must have a route that directs them to the different organs. Our find was unexpected, and raises teh question whether systemic infections by this virus are more common than currently recognized.

Perspectives

Many human ailments don't get a diagnosis. It may very well be the case that viruses such as Human coronavirus 229E cause a broader spectrum of human illnesses than are currently recognized.
