What is it about?

Leptospiosis represent a neglected disease with revelevance in veterinary studies, in which is associated with economic loss and zoonosis risk. This work aim to realize the whole genome sequence of clinical isolate obtained from bovine leptospirosis outbreak. Leptospira interrogans serovar Hardjo subtype hardjoprajitno was firstly related in Indonesia obtained from human patient, so this work has an important significance in epidemiological studies.

Why is it important?

This work represent the first whole genome sequence and assembly of the Leptospira interrogans serovar Hardjo subtype hardjoprajitno available in database. This bacterial type is important in veterinary medice be associated with clinical disease in world and also has a significant epidemiological value, considering it was firstly described in Indonesia causing infection in human patient. In Brazil, this bacterial strain is applied in vaccine formulation available for bovine leptospirosis control approved for brazilian goverment.

Perspectives

The whole genome sequence of Leptospira interrogans serovar Hardjo subtype hardjoprajitno represents the achievement of informations related to the most prevalent species associated with bovine leptospirosis in Brazil, also an important serovar involved in clinical disease in bovines in different countries in world and a potential zoonosis.
