What is it about?

The study reported the sequencing of the first Peruvian isolate (VFAR-043 strain) of infectious laryngotracheitis virus. The ILTV isolate was obtained from an outbreak occurred at a farm in Chincha Alta, Ica, Peru.

Why is it important?

The ILTV presence in poultry has been associated to economic losses in the industry due to its pathology which can vary from coughing, conjunctivitis, and gasping to expectoration of bloody mucus and death. Therefore, it is a disease of interest for the poultry industry.

Perspectives

This study will allow us to clarify ILTV epidemiology in Peru and to contribute to the knowledge of this virus in this region.
