What is it about?

The paper covers the extend of antibiotic resistant Gram-negative bacteria in the Gulf states, with special focus on beta-lactamase (such as carbapenemase) sprucing bacteria. The review also discuses some of the factors that may have contributed in the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance in the region. Lastly, advices on how to tackle the issue of antimicrobial resistance is also suggested.

This is the first systematic review that covers the issue of antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria in the whole region of the Arabian Peninsula. It also the first to discuss several factors that may have associated with the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance in the region.
