What is it about?

It is often assumed that prokaryotes change to anaerobic metabolism already at several micromolar oxygen. In this paper we describe that the O2 consumption of various bacteria isolated from the marine environment respire with unchanged rate down to < 0.1 micromolar, and that half-saturation concentrations may decrease to about 0.01 micromolar when during low rates of metabolism.
